Description

Title: Cape Florida Lighthouse

Date: 1901

General Note: Cape Florida Lighthouse, located on the southern end of Key Biscayne, was first built in 1825 and reconstructed ca. 1846 after the Second Seminole War (1835-1842). In July 1836, a band of Seminoles attacked and burned the lighthouse. Deactivated between 1878-1978 and 1990-1996, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1961.
