Description

Searching for a small day-use area with restrooms, picnic tables, and access to the Little North Santiam River? Look no further than the BLM’s Canyon Creek Recreation Site, located about 24 miles east of Salem along the North Fork Country Road. With a fee of $5 per vehicle per day, this day-use site—just downriver of the BLM’s larger Elkhorn Valley Recreation Site—features fifteen developed picnic sites, vault restrooms, a parking area, a sandy beach for summertime swimming, and a hand pump for potable water. Nearby are several county parks, too. Canyon Creek is a great stopover for folks headed to Opal Creek, to one of the numerous campgrounds or trailheads nearby, or to a spot for a leisurely summer swim. The only catch is that the small site is popular, so plan to get there early in the morning for a choice picnic site!
