English: Enrique Hunt diseñó este edificio, originariamente, como sede del banco Hipotecario de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. Es la construcción bancaria más antigua de la ciudad de Buenos Aires que aún está en pié.
Su construcción demandó cuatro años y finalizó en 1876. Este edificio es un exponente de la corriente italianizante del segundo período, ya que su ornamentación es mucho más abundante que la que se encuentra en el inmueble de San Martín 216. La fachada es monumental, con columnas y pilastras que abrazan los dos pisos. Desde el hall central, y a través de la balaustrada del primer piso, puede verse una galería con los retratos de quienes presidieron la entidad. A lo largo de su historia, el edificio cobijó a varias instituciones nacionales incluyendo la Corte Suprema de Justicia y la Caja de Conversión. |
