DescriptionCanadian-forces-affiliate-radio-system.jpg |
The Canadian Forces Affiliate Radio System was established in 1946 to connect deployed soldiers with loved ones at home, as well as providing a means of civil emergency backup communication. CFARS deploys volunteer operators and equipment from the radioamateur service but uses its own callsigns and frequencies. Depicted is CIW 64, a CFARS gateway located at the Military Communications and Electronics Museum at CFB Kingston. |
