English: The Biozaire campaign, conducted from November 15 to December 4, 2001 in the Gulf of Guinea, was developed by Ifremer in collaboration with Total Exploration. The objective of this program was to study the diversity and functioning of benthic communities in relation to the main characteristics of the deep environment on sites of the Congo-Gabon-Angola margin. In these images, the scientific team is cutting a multi-tube core on board the Atalante. The multi-tube corer is used to study meiofauna (small benthic fauna, between 32 micrometers and 1 millimeter) and microfauna (i.e. bacteria). It was used to take samples of undisturbed surface sediment using a battery of plastic tubes. |
