Summary

[edit]
Description

Here, Route 15 can be seen making its way from Rancho Cucamonga, across Lytle Creek, and up the Cajon Pass into the Mojave Desert and beyond. Cajon Pass can often have heavy traffic due to weekend travelers to/from Las Vegas.

Had I chosen to drive to/from New York City instead of flying, this would have been my most logical route for leaving from, and returning to, Los Angeles. And that is a drive I would indeed like to make someday. (Two months later, I would use Cajon Pass to make a different very long drive - driving the I-15 to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, then proceeding to Calgary and Banff.)

The freeway in the foreground, running east-west, is CA-210. It roughly follows the alignment of the old Route 66, which headed east to San Bernardino, then turned north to go through Cajon Pass along today's I-15 alignment. Another defunct route number through the Cajon Pass is US-91, which today's I-15 replaces.

Enroute from Newark to Los Angeles.
