Português: Caixa de pesos e medidas padrão Conjunto de 14 pesos padrão, mas cuja caixa exterior deve datar de 1582-1583 (época de D. António, Prior do Crato,1531-1595 ) a 1640 (c.) A reforma dos pesos e medidas foi determinada por D. Manuel (1469-1521) em circular assinada por si e pelo conde de Portalegre (Diogo da Silva, 1430-1504), datada de Évora, de 10 de março de 1497, onde manda convocar para Lisboa especialistas de pesos e medidas dos concelhos de todo o País para procederem a uma reforma no sistema vigente. A ideia foi de proceder a uma reforma total de todas as medidas existentes, associada à reforma dos forais (1497 a 1520). Foi assim criada uma pilha de padrões de pesos e medidas em bronze, que deveriam ser afilados pelos de Lisboa e que foram mandados fundir na Flandres, provavelmente, em Dinant, encontrando-se todos datados de 1499. As cidades e vilas com mais de 400 fogos receberam uma pilha de um quintal; as entre 400 e 200 fogos, uma de duas arrobas e as com menos de 200 fogos, de uma arroba. Receberam pilhas de um quintal as cidades de Lisboa, Funchal, Évora, Porto, Coimbra e a vila de Santarém. Para o Funchal vieram assim pesos e também para Machico, Porto Santo, Calheta Ponta do Sol e, depois provavelmente, Santa Cruz, de que restam três conjuntos, hoje no Núcleo Museológico da Cidade do Açúcar. Numa coleção particular do Funchal existe um exemplar já sem tampa, vindo do continente nos finais do século XX e, na Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa, existem mais de uma dúzia de exemplares recolhidos por todo o País. |
