Summary
[edit]DescriptionCairn on Mammie - geograph.org.uk - 873417.jpg |
English: Cairn on Mammie In 1973 in her book, "The Hills of Home", Amy Stewart Fraser recorded her memories of life in and around Glen Gairn at the end of the 19th and the start of the 20th centuries. She mentioned that, as part of the celebrations for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in June 1897, "several young men had climbed to the summit of Maamie [sic], about 1.600 feet, and had built a cairn, fixing a pole from which a flag flew bravely on Jubilee day."
These stones may, or may not, be the remains of that cairn. |
