Description
Français : Cachet en cire reproduisant l'un des sceaux de Gilles de Rais, en l'occurrence le sceau de juridiction relatif aux contrats pour le domaine de Tiffauges.
Dans son étude « Le sceau pour sauf-conduit de Gilles de Rais » (Archivum heraldicum, volume 84, 1970, p.9), Jean-Bernard de Vaivre précise qu'il s'agit d'un « sceau de 24 mm, du type armorial à l'écu droit portant une large bordure fleurdelisée, à l'écu à la croix en abîme. Le tout surmonté d'un tau. La légende est : P : S : DES : CONTRAS : DE : THEFAU : P G : S : D : R : c'est-à-dire, plus explicitement, petit sceau des (aux) contrats de Tiffauges pour Gilles sire de Rais. »
La matrice du sceau ayant été conservée, l'exemplaire photographié est vraisemblablement une reproduction datant du XIXe siècle.
