Nederlands: Repronegatief. In veel streken in de Archipel waar vanaf de 19e eeuw goedkope en sterke textiel uit het Westen werd ingevoerd nam het zelf zpinnen en weven sterk af. In bepaalde gebieden verdween het spinnen door de import van sterke en gelijkmatige industriële garens, maar niet het weven (bijvoorbeeld op Java). In andere streken, waar de internationale handel later en moeizamer was doorgedrongen, bleven spinnen en weven nog lang bestaan. Voor het spinnen werd op Java en Sumatra vooral het spinnewiel gebruikt, terwijl de vrouwen van de Kleine Soenda Eilanden en de Zuidoost-Molukken vooral het spinstokje hanteerden.
