Nederlands: Negatief. De Europeanen die op Java plantages begonnen waren, namen al snel een aantal rituelen rond de agrarische cyclus over van hun Javaanse arbeiders. Zo werd er op de suikerfabrieken een 'maalfeest' gehouden bij het begin van de oogst van het suikerriet, een feest om het begin van het malen van de suiker te markeren. Het was een sterk aangepaste vorm van de traditionele selamatan, de religieuze maaltijd. Daarbij ontstonden mengvormen die Nederlandse en Javaanse elementen bevatten. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
