Nederlands: Repronegatief. Al in 1896 werd er alarm geslagen over het verdwijnen van de meest populaire orchideeën op toegankelijke plaatsen in de Archipel. Dat gold natuurlijk vooral voor het toen al dichtbevolkte Java. Er bestond een levendige handel in deze planten. Grote aantallen werden naar Europa geëxporteerd en ook in de tuinen op Java plantte men ze graag over, waar ze echter slecht tegen konden. De hier gefotografeerde maanorchidee was wel een van de meest begeerde bloemen. Men zou kunnen denken dat het de bloemen zijn van de afgebeelde boom, maar de maanorchidee is wat men een epifyt noemt, een plant die groeit op de stam van een gastheer. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
