Nederlands: De leden van deze dansgroep zijn Kikuyu. Ze treden op voor toeristen in het gelijknamige 'Village dancers Hotel' te Nyeri. Hun danskostuums en rekwisieten zijn een mengeling van traditie en fantasie. Veel is gebaseerd op traditonele vormen maar ook nieuwe ontwerpen en materialen zijn zichtbaar. Een voorbeeld hiervan zijn het felgekleurde 'rieten' rokje van een danseres (zie 20038859) over een shirt en het houten schild (zie 20038858) in plaats van het oorspronkelijke leren exemplaar van de krijgers. Met zogenaamde 'traditionele volksdansen', zoals het bijschrift vermeld, heeft deze voorstelling vermoedelijk weinig van doen. |
