Title
CLOTH SEAL
Description
English:

Post-medieval cast lead-alloy cloth seal fragment, probably from a four-disc seal with three discs broken off and missing, probably dating from c. AD1550-1700. The complete seal would have consisted of four thin discs connected in sequence by narrow, thin strips. The disc at one end of the row has a circular perforation and that at the opposite end an integral spike - this is the one that survives in this instance. The strip of metal between the two central discs is then folded over so that the spike on one end would have passed through the perforation at the other. The disc is decorated with three untidy crosses and no official marks.
