Notes The fold out plate is hand coloured and is captioned: “Margate – the arrival of the husbands’ boat.” It is signed W. McConnell [i.e. William McConnell] and “Swain Sc.” de Beaumont notes on the title page: “[Book purchased from] Donald Fraser 12.76 £1.50” Yellow paper wrappers. Advertisements are printed on the endpapers and pastedowns. The lower cover has a red rule border, and an advertisement for : “ Peter Robinson’s Silks, Patterns Free, 103 to 108 Oxford St. London.” – all in elaborate coloured letters, set against a green background. The upper cover illustration depicts a man and wife(?) walking along a beach, with cliffs in the background. The man holds a clump of seaweed in his right hand. Above and below this scene, the words: “/ Seaside Guide Books./ One shilling./ Margate/ and/ Herne Bay./ London: W. Kent & Co. Paternoster Row./” are printed in black and red letters. The spine is not lettered. This book acquired with the generous assistance of the British Library Collections Trust. Another copy (probably) of this work is at British Library shelf mark 10351bbb27
