The MATS Connie is a military version of the Constellation 749A, also known as a C-121A. It was delivered to the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and used as a VIP transport, accumulating 16,000 hours of flying time during its Air Force career. Unfortunately the MATS Connie was purchased by United Technologies Corporation (Pratt and Whitney Division) in February 2005, and donated to Korean Air for static display at their training facility on Jeju Island. I am very glad that I had the opportunity to see the great plane on several occasions. I can describe the donation of this plane to Korean Air as a static display only one way – A TERRIBLE Waist. United Technologies Corporation should have helped the MATS team restore and display the MATS CONNIE right here in the USA. United Technologies Corporation should follow Boeings example of helping groups to restore, fly and display historic aircraft at air shows right here. (Scan from photo) |
