Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A fourteenth-century miniature Greek manuscript depicting scenes from the life of Alexander the Great. In this illustration the generals are depicted standing, they are numerous and occupy the whole width of the miniature. With their gestures they express their indignation. Alexander’s generals resent the new expedition against the Indians. ‘It suffices that we have campaigned up to Persis and have subjugated Darius who demanded taxes from the Greeks’, they said.’Why should we fight against the Indians? If Alexander wishes to be a warrior and subjugate the barbaric nations, let him go alone and fight on his own’. The entire scene is depicted entirely in Byzantine fashion of the late Byzantine period (1204-1453). “Alexander Romance” in S. Giorgio dei Greci in Venice
