Description
Nederlands: Oorspronkelijk een commanderij van de Duitse Orde die ontstond tijdens de kruistochten in Palestina. Na de inbeslagname tijdens de Franse Revolutie fungeerde het gebouw vanaf 1802 als residentie van de aartsbisschop van Mechelen.Tussen 1832 en 1881 was het in gebruik als stedelijk college. Vanaf 1881 doet het gebouwencomplex dienst als Koninklijk Atheneum. De school bestaat uit vier vleugels de Commanderij (ca. 1727), de Fayd'herbevleugel (1677), de Peremansvleugel (1957) en de Dodoensvleugel (1964).
English: Originally a commandery of the Teutonic Order created during the Crusades in Palestine. After its seizure during the French Revolution, the building served as the residence of the Archbishop of Mechelen from 1802 onwards and was used as a municipal college between 1832 and 1881. Since 1881, the building complex has served as the Royal Athenaeum. The school consists of four wings: the Commandery (ca. 1727), the Fayd'herbe wing (1677), the Peremans wing (1957) and the Dodoens wing (1964).
