Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On the web one can find an explanation, in short: The Historical Sword Shield Game, one of the most important folkloric symbols of Bursa, is kept alive in the Sword Shield House (the Kiliç kalkan evi), which was opened in 2012. Known as the only dance performed without music in the world, Sword Shield has been performed for nearly 700 years, faithfully to its original figures. The history of the sword shield game dates back to the conquest of Bursa. Some soldiers from the Ottoman army, in order to both demoralize the Byzantine soldiers inside the castle and to boost the morale of the Ottoman army soldiers who were bored of waiting, started playing with their swords and shields in groups of two, four and more outside Bursa Castle. They developed movements similar to armed training movements by gradually turning the sound they made by hitting their swords and shields against each other into a rhythm.
