[edit]DescriptionBurne-Jones House, 11 - 12 Bennetts Hill (Scottish Widows Building) (4730681719).jpg |
I was making detors off the side streets off New Street, when I found some plaques on Bennetts Hill of Edward Burne-Jones. It was also known as Scottish Widows Building. At 11 - 12 Bennetts Hill. It may now be known as Burne-Jones House, although it seems to be empty now. Later went back to get a shot of the Scottish Widow Building (or Burne-Jones House). No 11 - 12 Bennetts Hill - the Scottish Widows Building, of 1930-31 by E. C. Bewlay of Peacock & Bewlay. A heavy block, but with a wiry appearance partly due to the architraves projecting forward of the pilasters. Neo-Egyptian capitals and sculpted heads. From Pevsner Architectural Guides: Birmingham by Andy Foster. |
