[edit]DescriptionBurley, guide stone - geograph.org.uk - 1116422.jpg |
English: Burley, guide stone. Going up Queen's Head Hill, this guide stone is one of two erected by Thomas Eyre, steward to Burley Manor (see 1116407 for the other). Legend reads "To/Lyndhurft//To/Lymington/Reft/and be/thankful//PEACE/Reftored/27th. March/1802". The peace referred to was provided for a year by the Peace Of Amiens. Thomas Eyre distributed his charity from here; clothing & shoes to local poor children. |
