The Swan Stone Castle, the ancestral home of the nobles of the Schwangau dates from the 12 century. The Bavarian Crown Prince Maximilian (later King Maximilian II of Bavaria) bought the castle crumbled to ruin and left it in the Gothic Revival style rebuild. It was from then on as a summer residence of the Royal Family. King Ludwig II grew up here. Since the beginning of the 19th century, the castle of Hohenschwangau was named. |
