| Description |
English: A massive layer of Bunte Breccie (literally colorful breccia) overlaying the limestone at the Gundelsheim quarry. The "Bunte Breccie" is a mixture of sediments (mostly limestone and clay, from small fragments to blocks several meters in size) that was ejected from the Ries crater. The abraded surface of the limestone below the "Bunte Breccie" shows scratches pointing towards the center of the Ries crater that were caused when the ejected material was moved at high speed across this surface. The Gundelsheim quarry is located approx. 7.5 kilometers east of the crater rim.
Deutsch: Eine mächtige Decke Bunte Breccie überlagert eine Kalksteinbank im Steinbruch Gundelsheim. Die "Bunte Breccie" besteht aus durchmischten Sedimenten (hauptsächlich Kalkgesteine und Tone, deren Größe von kleinen Fragmenten bis hin zu Blöcken von mehreren Metern reicht), die aus dem Rieskrater ausgeworfen wurden. Der unterliegende Kalk zeigt eine gut entwickelte Schliff-Fläche, deren Kratzspuren in Richtung des Zentrums des Rieskraters weisen. Diese Schleifspuren entstanden, als das Auswurfmaterial mit hoher Geschwindigkeit über diese Oberfläche geschoben wurde. Der Steinbruch Gundelsheim liegt rund 7,5 Kilometer östlich des Kraterrandes. |
