For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Berlin, Oranienburger Straße, Synagoge, Ruine ADN-ZB Settnik 5.11.88-zeit-Berlin: Grundsteinlegung-Mit reichem ornamentalen Schmuck versehen war auch die Straßenfront der im "maurischen" Stil errichteten Neuen Synagoge in der Oranienburger Straße. Die Baupläne schuf Eduard Knoblauch, ein Schüler Friedrich Schinkels. Der jüdische Sakralbau war bei einem Luftangriff 1943 zerstört worden. Ursprünglich sollten die erhaltenen Ruinen im vorderen Bereich als Mahnung stehen bleiben. Um der Jüdischen Gemeinde ein würdiges Domizil zu geben, wurde der teilweise Wiederaufbau beschlossen. -siehe auch 1988-1105-6-8N und 10N sowie R67838 -
