For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Wismar, Alter Markt Zentralbild Link 13.7.1970 Hn. Reise nach Wismar Wismar-alte Hansestadt mit gotischen Kirchen, engen Gassen und anmutigen Giebelhäusern-heute mit Überseehafen, modernen Industrieanlagen und der zweitgrößten Werft der DDR. Es lohnt sich, diese typisch norddeutsche Stadt an der Ostsee zu besuchen, ihre unaufdringliche Schönheit zu bewundern und ihre Kontraste zu entdecken. Am Markt, mit 10000 Quadratmetern einer der größten Norddeutschlans, befinden sich prächtige Giebelhäuser aus der Zeit der Hanse aber auch aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert. Sie werden von kundigen Restauratoren liebevoll gepflegt. Noch heute ist der Marktplatz wie vor 700 Jahren der Mittelpunkt des gesellschaftlichen Lebens der Stadt.
