For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Magdeburg, Rathaus, Johanniskirche, Ruinen Zentralbild Biscan 14.4.1966 20. Jahrestag der SED Magdeburg hat sich verändert Durch anglo-amerikanische Bombenangriffe wurde die Elbestadt stark zerstört. Im Stadtzentrum betrug der Zerstörungsgrad 85 Prozent. 40 637 Wohnungen waren total zerstört, 31 785 nur teilweise. Unter der Führung der Partei der Arbeiterklasse wurde im Verlauf von 20 Jahren nahezu alle Kriegsschäden beseitigt und ganze Stadtviertel neu aufgebaut.
