For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Chemnitz, Wilhelm-Pieck-Straße Zentralbild Gahlbeck 29.9.1962 Zum Jahrestag der Republik. Nicht mehr wiederzuerkennen......sind diese farbenfrohen Gebäude an der Wilhelm-Pieck-Straße nach ihrer Generalüberholung. Vom Dach bis in den Keller wurden acht große Mietshäuser in dieser Straße erneuert, die Inneneinrichtungen modernisiert und die dunklen, engen Hinterhöfe weggerissen. 3 Millionen DM an staatlichen Mitteln wurden seit dem Frühjahr 1961 in Karl-Marx-Stadt insgesamt für die Renovierung alter Gebäude ausgegeben. UBz: Blick in die Wilhelm-Pieck-Straße. Im Hintergrund ein 12-geschossiges Wohnhaus des neuerbauten Stadtzentrums.
