For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Zentralbild-Biscan 17.11.1959 Armaturen für die Olleitung UDSSR-DDR Das Schwerarmaturenwerk Erich Weiner in Magdeburg baut Ölfeldschieber für die Pipeline, die von der Sowjetunion in die DDR führen und das entstehende petrolchemische Kombinat in Schwedt mit Erdöl versorgen wird. Diese Ölfeldeschieber, von denen im nächsten Jahr noch 50 Stück geliefert werden, sind riesige Hähne, mit denen der Erdölstrom reguliert werden kann. Die Schieber haben eine lichte Weite von 800 millimetern und wiegen am Stück etwa 10 000 Kilogramm. Sie sind für einen Betriebsdruck von 64 Atmosphären konstruiert und werden zur Auflieferung einem Prüfdruck von 96 Atmosphären unterworfen. UBz. Aktivist Verpacker Erich Lücke befestigt einen fertigen Ölfelschieber auf den Holzkufen, auf denen er zum Versand gelangt. |

English: Date: November 17, 1959: Fittings for USSR-GDR pipeline. The Erich Weiner heavy works factory in Magdeburg manufactures oil field valves for the pipeline leading from the Soviet Union to East Germany in support of the developing petrochemical industry in Schwedt. This large valve, which will be delivered in 1956 with about 50 other similar units, is used to regulate the flow of oil in the pipeline. The opening has a clear width of 800 millimeters and weighs about 10,000 kilograms. These valves are designed for an operating pressure of 64 atmospheres and are subjected to a test pressure of 96 atmospheres. In the photo, factory worker Erich Lücke attaches a completed valve onto wooden runners prior to shipping. |
