For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
ADN-29.1.91-ba-Berlin: Ermessungsspielräume gibt es jede Menge bei der weiterhin diskutierten Umbenennung von Straßen und Plätzen im östlichen Teil der Stadt. Marx und Engels, deren Namen neben dem allgegenwärtigen Lenin in der DDR zweifellos am meisten strapaziert worden waren, hätten sicher nichts dagegen einzuwenden, entschieden weniger oder gar nicht in den Straßenbezeichnungen vorzukommen. Was den S-Bahnhof Marx-Engels-Platz angeht, so hat sich die mit den Umbenennungen befaßte zeitweilige Arbeitsgruppe der Bezirksverordnetenversammlung Mitte auf den früheren Namen Bahnhof Börse einigen können. Am Ende wird jedoch der Senat das letzte Wort haben, was die diversen Namensänderungen angeht. ZB-Peer Grimm
