Damaged ma-chines are procured from various sources, taken apart, the troublelocated, and the armature either rewound or such repairs made asare necessary to put it into first-class condition. The parts are thenassembled and the machine tested out. This course furnishes an unusualopportunity to those students who must deal with electrical machineryin their teaching, since there is hardly another normal school to befound which offers such a course. In addition to these courses, courses are given in industrial physics,household physics, mechanics, and plumbing. Innumerable men and women had seen the kettle boil, but it occurredto only one that the force which lifted the lid might be confined and madeto do human service. There is so much of life that is quantitative in character, and thereare so many relations of magnitude existing throughout the world aboutus, that mathematics can not help touching the affairs of practical lifeat so many points as to make it a most necessary part of any educationalprogram or course of study. It is true that the amount and the type ofmathematics necessary for the successful prosecution of different linesof work are widely different.
