Buitreraptor: "Vulture thief" Late Cretaceous, South America

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Buitreraptor is a small unenlagiine dromaeosaur from the Late Cretaceous of Argentina. It grew to about 1.5 m in length, and weighed 3 kg. Buitreraptor had a slender, elongated snout with many small recurved teeth that lacked meat-tearing serrations or cutting edges. These teeth suggest that Buitreraptor probably swallowed its prey whole, as they only functioned to hold prey. Buitreraptor also had long gracile legs, indicating that it was a runner, capable of traveling long distances. From these adaptations, it is thought that Buitreraptor was a hunter of lizards and small mammals, rather than larger prey.
