[edit]DescriptionBuilding a 3-D model of Yuba River canyon (6649707179).jpg | Bobby Gonzalez, a field assistant at the University of California-Davis, photographs the Yuba River canyon below Englebright Dam near Smartsville, Calif., Jan. 6, 2012. Researchers at the University of California-Davis will use the images to create a virtual 3-D model of the river canyon to aid future research. Under the direction of the National Marine Fisheries Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, which owns and manages the dam, has placed more than 5,000 tons of gravel in the river to improve spawning habitat for the threatened Chinook salmon and steelhead trout species. Dr. Greg Pasternack, professor of land, air and water resources at UC-Davis, designed the gravel injection project and is evaluating the gravel’s movement through the river course.
