Description |
English: A complete copper-alloy folded sheet buckle plate, rectangular in shape measuring 43.3mm in length and 28.2mm in width, the back of the plate is a smaller folded rectangular panel. The plate is recessed to accomodate the missing frame and has a rectangular shaped pin slot. There are two parallel circular rivet holes at either corner of the frame end of the plate and three more parallel rivet holes at the attachment end. The rear edge of the attachment end of this plate is shaped with three V-shaped notches. On the front face incised decoration can be seen consisting of arch shaped grooves at the attachment end and a transverse groove at either end of the plate. Traces of gilding can also be seen. This buckle plate is most likely to be medieval and c14th century in date. |
