English: A complete copper-alloy folded sheet buckle plate. Rectangular in shape, measuring 25mm by 21mm in size and 4mm in thickness. This plate has been recessed for the missing frame. and has a pin sloth which is now filled with corroded iron, implying that the pin was iron. Both faces of the plate are held together, at the attachment end, with two parallel rivets. The front face of this plate is decorated with a moulded bird, its feet are horizontal, its body sloping upwards above them and its neck at 45 degrees to the body. The neck is bent backwards with the head at right angles from the neck. Traces of gilding can also be seen on the front face of the plate. This plate is medieval and 14th century in date. |
