Title
Buckle plate
Description
English: Cast copper alloy buckle plate dating to the Medieval period, (1100-1500). The object is rectangular in plan and cross-section. One end of the object has a rectangular recess for the buckle pin and would have folded over the strap bar when complete. Each end terminates with a break. The outer surface is decorated with two parallel lines creating a border inside of which is a series of diagonal incisions. The plate has two circular rivet holes for attachment. The rear of the object is undecorated. The object has a dark green patina and is in good condition. Similar examples can be seen in Egan and Pritchard, p111, (1991).
