Title |
buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy single-looped D-shaped buckle frame with thickened and expanded outer edge which is hollowed and convex in profile. The upper face of the expanded frame has moulded concentric ridges, but the surface of the frame has gone as has any decoration with it. The pin bar is narrowed and worn in the centre where the pin would have once rotated around it. The pin is missing but was probably formed of a pointed piece of copper sheet folded around the pin bar, tapering towards the point of the pin.
The buckle frame is 25 mm long and 17 mm wide and 1.5 mm in thickness. The bar within the frame is 17 mm long and 2.5 mm wide and 2 mm in thickness. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on page 19, No.52 , which is dated from c.1250-1500. |
