Title
Buckle Plate
Description
English: A copper alloy harness pendant suspension mount dating to the thirteenth or fourteenth centuries AD. The pendant is rectangular in shape with a central circular boss. Surrounding the boss, there is decoration comprising stamped annulets. Remnants of gilding are also visible. Two rectangular lugs extend from one end of the pendant which would have originally formed the attachment loop for the pendant. There is no obvious means of fixing the mount to the harness, but there is damage to the edge opposite the lug, and small rivet holes may have been lost. The mount measures 24mm in length and 24mm in width.
