Title |
Buckle Frame |
|||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy buckle frame with central bar of Late Medieval date. Buckle consisting of rectangular inside loop, with larger oval outside loop. The moulded bar has a recess to house the now missing pin. The pin notch is evident on the frame.
A buckle of the same form has been found in London (Egan & Pritchard 1991) which still retains its leather strap and illustrated the method of attachment via two rivets secured by a bar-mount through a leather strap around the rectangular part of the frame (ibid. p102). The date may be verified from a buckle found on a Late Medieval burial at Merton Priory in Surrey (ibid. p102). |
