Brown waterfall of limestone stalactites and stalagmites

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Brown waterfall of limestone stalactites and stalagmites in the Lewis and Clark Caverns cave system at the state park in Three Forks, Montana. The waterfall appearance is created from hundreds of years of limestone-rich water dripping from the cave ceiling and piling up in solidified columns.

The Lewis and Clark Caverns are named so after the idea that the explorers had passed by twice on their journies, not knowing it existed. The Natives in the area had stories about it as in the winter, steam would rise out of the cave mouth which is the phenomenon that produced its discovery in the first place. Later on, it was bought out by Dan Morrison, a prospector, who turned it into an attraction for people to pay to see. It traded hands twice more before becoming part of the state park in Montana.
