[edit]DescriptionBrooch - Dagobert Peche (38691648565).jpg |
Brooch by Dagobert Peche, on display as part of the "Jazz Age" exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. Peche (1887-1923) was an Austrian architect who is best known as a decorative arts designer. He joined the Wiener Werkstatte, the first modern art studio, in 1915. He was a member of the Vienna Secession, an art movement that rejected Historicism and advocated "to each age, its own art". His own style was inspired by folk art, and utilized animals, flowers, and human figures as motifs. He tended toward the baroque (ornate). He was considered the best Austrian decorative arts designer since the Renaissance. This brooch, of gold and mother-of-pearl, was made in 1922, a year before Peche died.
