Title
Bronze Age dagger: Dagger or knife
Description
English: A cast tanged dagger or knife dating to the Late Bronze Age. The dagger is leaf shaped, slender and with a very thin, almost flat pointed oval cross-section. The blade is double edged with each edge being bevelled. The top of the blade is slightly shouldered where it narrows into a rectangular tang. There is a single rivet hole, 4.7mm diameter, with a sloping edge that is sub-circular in plan and slightly off-centre. The surface condition is poor with extensive loss due to corrosion. Limited areas of original surface, patinated dark green or brown remain but the majority of the surface is smooth gold in colour.

A similar example, WILT-83A428 is dated to the late Bronze Age Wilburton and Ewart Park phases (1000-700 BC). It is possible that the Oxfordshire example has been cut-down and reused as it is quite small. For other examples see LIN-01C457 and DOR-FAC625.
