Title |
Bronze Age Casting Jet |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy casting jet of possible Bronze Age date (2150 BC – 800 BC). Length: 26.7mm; width: 29.9mm and 19.0mm thick. Weight: 32.68g.
The object is roughly funnel-shaped and in plan has a flat sub-oval concave head, the surface of which is irregular and pitted. This uneven surface was probably created when the molten metal was solidifying. On the underside there is a pair of sprue elements (feeders). Each feeder is in the form of a long stub which is both turned inwards at the ends. The piece has a mid-dark green patina. It is possible that this casting jet is later than the Bronze Age. A similar casting jet has been recorded from Hawkedon Parish, Suffolk. See Portable Antiquities Scheme find: SF-935A54. |
