Description
British Burn the Capitol, 1814, a painting by Allyn Cox in the Hall of Capitols, a corridor in the House side of the United States Capitol. It depicts the burning of Washington during the War of 1812. Cox had been hired to finish the Brumidi frieze in the Capitol's rotunda, and later painted a large number of murals elsewhere in the building.
Date Painting made 1973-4; event depicted occurred on August 24, 1814.
