English: Bristol City Council House. The Council house is crescent shaped, and at either end are two large arches. This photograph is taken through one of those arches.
The council house was officially opened on 17th April 1956 by the Queen. It was designed by E. Vincent Harris and construction began in 1935. The shell of the building was almost complete when WWII commenced. During the war it was used as a restaurant. Inside the main room has the names of the Mayors of Bristol carved on the walls. |
