Summary
[edit]DescriptionBrinkburn Priory and Manor House - geograph.org.uk - 1960708.jpg |
English: Brinkburn Priory and Manor House, near to Pauperhaugh, Northumberland, Great Britain.
The priory is tucked away in a wooded valley within a loop of the River Coquet. Founded in the 1130s as a community of Augustinian canons. It was one of the first monasteries to be closed at the Dissolution in 1536. The manor house was the living area of the priory and was radically altered in the 19th century into a family house. English Heritage are attempting to stop the condition of the house deteriorating; the upper floor is closed and damp, dry rot etc, have taken their toll. |
