[edit]DescriptionBringing Down the Sails DVIDS45728.jpg |
English: BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Coast Guard Academy cadets aboard the 295-foot Coast Guard Cutter Eagle stow sails as they prepare to enter the Port of Bridgetown, at 10 a.m. today, May 25, 2007. The cadets are on the lower yard approximately 80-feet above the deck of the ship. The cadets must routinely climb into the rigging of the ship to set, unfurl, overhaul or stow the sails. The Eagle is the only square-rigged sailing vessel presently active in the U.S. fleet, and serves as the training ship for cadets attending the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.
