Summary
[edit]DescriptionBridleway north towards Haythwaite - geograph.org.uk - 1597027.jpg |
English: Bridleway north towards Haythwaite Leaving the Stang Forest and heading towards Haythwaite on the bridleway, the route is waymarked with circular yellow spots on occasional boulders, but only in places where the way on is already obvious, and not at any of the junctions. In other places the way becomes lost in the rushes and heather, but when the route turns north it becomes much better defined (but isn't where the map shows it). A dammed flight pond to the east of this spot is not shown on the map at all, and one suspects that the route now followed by the bridleway exists because vehicle access was needed when earth was being moved to dam this stream. It is clearly a route for horses and vehicles, since walkers will not want to use this ford when the stream is high - casting about upstream leads across a small jumpable stream to the dam itself, which can be used as a causeway, and the outlet is narrow enough to jump too, before returning to the bridleway by another faint track. |
