Date: Circa 1912 Source Type: Postcard Publisher, Printer, Photographer: Albert Moskop Postmark: July 31, 1913, Kendrick, Idaho Collection: Steven R. Shook Remark: The brick yard in Kendrick, Latah County, Idaho, was established in 1898 by Joseph Antone Fruchtl. Joseph was born in Sigel, Shelby County, Illinois, on April 18, 1868, and died in Clarkston, Asotin County, Washington, on September 27, 1957. Joseph married Sophia S. Gertje in 1889; the marriage was short-lived as Sophia died on May 15, 1901, at Cameron, Nez Perce County, Idaho. Joseph later married Lillie Maude Thomas in October 1903. Together, Joseph and Maude has nine children. Maude passed away on November 11, 1917, and Joseph married Susana "Susie" Nelson in February 1919. Susie passed away in December 29, 1952. The brick yard produced steam dried and steam pressed brick. By 1909, the capacity of the facility exceeded 20,000 bricks per day. When a fire destroyed much of Kendrick in 1900, including the brickyard, Fruchtl had enough brick inventory to assist in rebuilding the business district of town.
