Summary

Description	Français : Briançon, Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France. La ville haute de Briançon et les forts qui la protègent sont inscrits au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. L'ensemble a été pensé par Vauban à la fin du 17° siècle mais en partie construit après sa mort. Située au carrefour des vallées de la Durance, de la Clarée, de la Guisane et de la Cerveyrette, Briançon est le verrou des Alpes du sud, coté France. Même les plans de l'église (établis par Isaac Robelin) ont été visés par Vauban pour s'assurer qu'elle ne constitue pas un point faible dans la défense de la ville. Louis XIV avait fait dynamiter l'ancienne église du 12° siècle qu'il jugeait dangereuse pour la sécurité de la ville.
