Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Brazilianite
Locality: Conselheiro Pena, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil (Locality at mindat.org)
This is another remarkable crystal from the 1940s , and the first finds of this gem species. He loved the stuff and had accumulated the largest hoard of them I have seen in one place! Such crystals, for brilliance and color, have never been found since. This is a beautiful, impressive piece of exceptional internal brilliance and brightness. It almost GLOWS with internal fire. It is translucent to transparent in parts, but not throughout. Brazilianite is one of the more readily cleaveable gem crystals. The sides on this specimen, the lower and shorter faces to the left and right as shown, may be cleaved or it could just be a contact - it is hard to tell. Still, it displays very nicely, sits nicely, and is quite simply one of the most colorful examples, the most intensely colored, that I have seen in a long time. It is complete all around the termination save for one very tiny ding on one edge, and that can be displayed to the reverse in any case since it looks good from all sides. 4.5 x 3.6 x 3.1 cm
